Master Title
comparative study to evaluate the effect of high impact acrylic resin on the abutment structure of partial denture cases
Master Abstract
In this study, a comparison was done between the effect of high impact acrylic resin and conventional acrylic resin on the periodontal structures of the abutment teeth supporting partial denture.
Twenty class II mandibular cases were selected for this study and divided into two equal groups of 10 cases each:
Group I: mandibular cobalt-chromium partial denture with a conventional acrylic denture base resin.
Group II: mandibular cobalt-chromium partial denture with a high impact acrylic denture base resin.
Three parameters were used to evaluate the effect of the denture base material:
a. Crevicular fluid
b. Pocket depth
c. Gingival index
The measurements were carried at time of insertion,2 weeks,4 weeks,6 weeks and 8 weeks from time of insertion. The recorded measurements were statistically analyzed.
The results of this study revealed that the rate of change between the two groups in the crevicular fluid was more for the high impact acrylic resin, while in the pocket depth, it was more for the conventional acrylic resin. Results of the gingival index scores were nearly parallel to that of the pocket depth.
PHD Title
The Effect of Reducing Palatal Coverage of Single Maxillary Denture with Ultra-Suction Device on Retention and Muscle Activity
PHD Abstract
The effect of using the Ultra-Suction device to increase retention of single denture was evaluated, also the muscle amplitude for both right and left temporalis and masseter muscles were recorded for full palatal coverage, full palatal coverage with ultra-suction and reduced palatal coverage with ultra-suction. The retention and EMG were recorded for seven patients wearing maxillary single denture opposed by dentulous mandibular arch at the time of insertion, one, and three month, the same recording were made after mounting the Ultra-Suction device as well as after reducing the palate. It was found that the mean values of the dislodging forces were the greatest using full palatal coverage with the aid of Ultra-Suction device followed by full palatal coverage while that of the palatal reduction with the aid of Ultra-Suction showed the least values, at the time of insertion , after 1 and 3 months. Also the results showed no statistically significant difference between full palatal coverage and that of the full palatal coverage with the aid of Ultra-Suction at the time of insertion, and after 3 months.
As regarding the muscle activity, results of this study showed that at the time of insertion , after 1 month and after 3 months the mean muscle amplitude for both the masseter and temporalis muscles was higher using reduced palatal coverage aided with Ultra-Suction device , while full palatal coverage showed the least muscle amplitude.
